Postgraduate Courses
At BU our postgraduate students are exposed to leading national and international scholars, given the opportunity to learn with other professionals and benefit from flexible modes of education delivery.
Our new flexible, inter-professional and practice-based range of postgraduate courses has been designed for specifically for professionals working in health and social care settings.
We fully recognise that providing postgraduate education for health and social care professionals requires a flexibility, that enables you to meet your competencies for professional practice and professional registration. At its simplest level individual postgraduate units may be taken for academic credit or alternatively you may undertake one of the full programmes leading to an academic and in some instances a professional award.

- MA Advanced Mental Health Practice
This course is designed to prepare practitioners for the role of an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)
- PG Diploma Advanced Nurse Practitioner
This course is designed for registered nurses who are working in an advanced practice capacity (accredited with the RCN)
- PG Certificate Educational Practice
Designed for those wanting to develop their practice as an educator
- MA Leading and Developing Services
This course is designed for managers in both health and social care roles.
- MSc Professional Practice (Health and Social Care)
This course offers a highly flexible option, both in time and content, to clinical and managerial HSC professionals who want to progress to full masters through the completion of units within the postgraduate Continual Professional Development scheme.
- MSc Public Health
This course is designed for people from multi-agency and professional backgrounds who are involved in public health
- PG Diploma Public Health - with registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse
This course is designed for nurses/midwives who wish to become registered as Health Visitors or School Nurses (accredited with the NMC)
- MA Professional Practice (Qualitative Research)
As a participant in this exciting new course, you will be connected to the Centre for Qualitative Research, participate in its well-known masterclasses, and be supervised by international experts in the field. This course has developed an interesting mixed model that will meet the needs of practitioners who are working in the fields of health or social care or related interdisciplinary areas.
- MA Social Work
This course responds to initiatives implemented by The Social Work Task Force and Reform Board providing a high quality course that meets the Government, professional body and disciplinary requirements.
- Build your Own Qualification
This option enables you to select a number of units that will help you accumulate academic credit, and you can then use these credits towards a BSc (Hons) or Graduate Diploma qualification
